Easiest Short Green Side Pitch

Short Green Side Pitch

Hi Mike Cahill here with Cahill Golf. Today I am going to talk about the short green side pitch, for times a soft, short pitch shot is required. This shot can be used when you are only a few paces out from the target or even for a short downhill pitch.
I would suggest you watch the “Easier Accurate Chipping Method” video first, as the method is very similar. In the “Easier Accurate Chipping Method “I use firm hands, firm wrist, wider stance, and weight forward and then on the way through a little move forward through the ball.
We are going to make only one change to the “Easier Accurate Chipping Method.” On the Short Green Side Pitch put the ball a little bit more forward in the stance. This is going to allow for a slight outside in path. The Short Green Side Pitch’s path is a little outside on the motion back and a little inside on the forward path. So, the club actually cuts across the normal ball path line a bit. Open the clubs face a little. Just as in the “Easier Accurate Chipping Method” make a little move forward. Then, swing through the ball with a slight cut across the path. A little practice will help with target accuracy.

Put the ball a little bit more forward in the stance.

Open the club’s face a bit.

The Short Green Side Pitch is more difficult than the “Easier Accurate Chipping Method” but the ball will land soft and accurately on those difficult short or downhill pitch shots.
