Hi, Dave Cahill here at the Loggers Trail Golf Course in Minnesota. It’s a very nice morning here. I can hear roosters, pheasant roosters crowing. And, I just heard some turkeys as well. What a beautiful place to be.

The grass grows really fast in Minnesota this time of year: I have a ball here, you can’t even see it, nestled way down into the rough. I am about 150 yards out. It is one of these shots you must be able to dig out. Or, you could just bump it about five feet in front of you. Interestingly, this shot will be very much like hitting a sand shot. Your hands will have to be ahead so you can come down steeply. Open the club up a little bit by laying the toe back. Opening the club face will let you slide it through the grass instead of digging. If you hit it square on it is going to dig right down in there and you won’t be able to get that club to the ball with any speed. When the ball hits the ground up ahead the ball is going to run. It is not just going to stop. You can take the same amount of club you would normally hit from this distance.

  1.  Pick the club up a little bit steeper, like with a sand shot.
  2.  In this case, put the ball a little bit back in the stance.
  3.  Open the club face up a little bit.
  4.  Open up the stance as well.
  5.  Hands are ahead just a bit.
  6.  Make a normal swing with that open face.

The ball lands in front, still hopping and rolling. 😊 Right up on the green.
