Easiest Golf Pitch with Arms

The easiest and most accurate way to execute medium length pitches is with your arms. When the extra motions of the wrists and torso/hip rotation are removed golf shots become easier to perform. Cocking your wrists in the back swing is not necessary for medium length pitch shots. Creating energy with the rotation of your torso and hips is not necessary for these shorter shots. Pitching with your arms reduces extra motions and your golf pitch shots will be more accurate and more consistent.

The set up for the arm oriented pitch has a few minor adjustments.

  1. Set up with your weight on your left side (right hand golfers)
  2. Place the ball slightly back of the stance.
  3. Maintain your weight on the left side during the entire swing.

These adjustments will keep the club traveling on a steeper downward path through impact and insure that your pitch is struck with a descending blow. A steeper downward path makes the pitch shot easier to perform.

During the swinging motion emphasize the left arm both during the backswing and during the downswing. Feel like you are lifting your left arm up and then pulling down. Maintain your spine angle just as you would for all golf shots. Your torso and hips will turn along with the arm motion. The rotational motion of the hips and shoulders is passive.
