Disastrous golf swing

Disastrous golf swing

Hi Dave Cahill here at our beautiful Palm Springs Golf Schools, you can see the mountains in the background. Today I’d like to talk about weight transfer for distance, accuracy and consistency and to clear up a couple of things about the golf forward swing.
On the left hand side I am going to demonstrate how we do not want to be moving our hips separately forward and thrusting them out down the target line. On the right side you will see a golf swing with the correct motion about how those hips should move forward. I am going to draw a couple of circles here which are the gravity center points for the head, chest, and hips. Now watch, when you thrust your hips out separately your head drops back and when the head drops back it also tends to open the club face. Now look at the center points. They are out of alignment: the hips are ahead, chest is behind and head is even further behind. As a result a golfer would have to attempt to time the shot by rolling their wrists. Distance, accuracy and consistency are negatively affected… hitting golf shots out to the right… hooks… or even shanking are the result.
On the right side you will see the correct golf swing. Notice at the beginning of the forward swing the center points are close to being lined up. On the forward swing we are going to move all three center points forward together… re-positioning so we can leverage the swing and turn through the shot. If we look at the golf swing from down the line you will notice that done properly the club moves right down the target line, the shoulders turn forward without dropping back. The head does not drop back. We are now able to move powerfully around our spine into the shot.
