Difficult Lie – Buried in Grass on the Hill

Hi. Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf at the Logger’s Trail Golf Course in Minnesota. I missed the green right. My ball is buried in heavy grass on the side of a hill. How do I get up and out of this difficult lie.

To get out I will need a steep angle of decent. So, I play the ball a little further back in my stance and put my weight a bit to the left side. That will increase the angle on the way back and the way down.  In addition, I need to get the club sliding through the grass. To do that I’ll open the face of the club by turning the toe back which sets the club on the back side and then keep my hands ahead on the shot.

It looks like this at address. The ball is a little back in my stance, hands ahead, weight a bit over to the left and open the face. Pops it right out every time, right by the pin.
