Climbing the Wall

Hi, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California.

I would like you to think about climbing the wall on the backswing to create more power. The way to climb the wall is with the turn. So where do you climb the wall turn and how do you do it? Take the backswing to the point the hands are about at hip height (the right hip for those who are right-handed). At that point, the weight is over the right side. Now, turn the shoulders and hips to climb straight up the wall. Imagine there is a wall here (see photo) behind you.

Do not swing behind the wall. Take the club back along the target line until the hands are about hip height, then rotate the turn the shoulders and hips together and climb straight up the wall.

PGA Instructor Mike Cahill and PGA Master Instructor Dave Cahill are here to help you play better and enjoy the game more. Please come see us in Palm Springs CA for golf lessons or visit us for a Palm Springs, CA or Las Vegas, NV Golf School.
