Choose Your Tee Box to Enjoy the Game

Hi, Dave Cahill. I am at the Loggers Trail Golf Course in Minnesota.  You might notice I am standing at the white tees. And, you may be saying “Dave what are you doing playing from the white tees. You are a golf pro; shouldn’t you be at the far tees?”  But, I am not playing in a tournament. I am out here to have fun just like you. So Instead of playing from the back tees I want to play from the white, have shots into the green that are pitching wedges, nine irons and eight irons and occasionally a long wood. Generally speaking a 6100 or 6200-yard round is just fine. You may even find you want to play from 5800 yards. The point is to give yourself a place where you can hit shots where you use your pitching wedge and your eight and seven irons and occasionally a long one. You can even play a variety of tees during the round: Remember though, you won’t be able to enter the score as a USGA handicap score.  Play at a yardage that makes the game fun. I am finding I can really have fun at 61-6200 yards.

Setting the Proper Course For a Two-Tee Match

… According to our staff, it seems that no handicapping situation leads to more head-scratching moments than calculating how to compete equitably with someone playing from a different set of tees.

Ask anyone who has mastered the science of handicapping to explain the calculations of properly allocating strokes, and you will most likely be left standing there with your head spinning. There has to be an easier way, right?

Luckily for you, there is.  Read the article.
